ALL ABOUT SOPHIE WRIGHT, CHEF

My greatest loves are food – talking about it, recipe development and, of course, cooking – and my family. Based in Hertfordshire with my husband and two children, Bertie and Betsy, I am an award-winning chef, author and food stylist.

Over 10 years ago I launched Sophie Wright Catering, abusiness catering celebrity dinners to children’s parties, and everything between.

I have been a panellist on BBC Radio 4’s The Kitchen Cabinet for six years and, more recently, became an ambassador for Tesco Baby Club.

I am the author of four recipe books. The latest, Blooming Delicious, was written with the help of top nutritional therapist Henrietta Norton while I was pregnant with my son, and includes selected recipes for every stage, from pre-conception through to early motherhood.

I’ve made regular TV appearances on Market Kitchen andRiver Cottage, among other programmes. I enjoy producing video cooking demonstrations for Tesco Baby Club and my YouTube channel, Sophie Cooks. I write a monthly column for Great British Food Magazine and my recipes frequently feature in Grazia Magazine. You can find some of my favourite recipes on my blog.

Growing up in Hackney, I struggled with dyslexia and left school at 16 to focus on my love of food. I joined the acclaimed Westminster Culinary Arts College and never looked back. After graduating, I gained experience in some of London’s best-known restaurants, travelled and worked as a private chef to the rich and famous. I am now Executive Chef at the exclusive women-only club, Grace Belgravia, which opened to members in 2013.

My style of cooking is a mix of modern European cuisine, cooked simply, using the best products available. I’m proud to have been named by The Times as one of the ‘most influential under 25 year olds’ and featured in Red Magazine’s ‘Top 20 under 30 to watch’ feature.

I am passionate about making easy, nutritious, realistic meals accessible for the everyday cook. So, at the age of 22, I published my first collection of recipes, Easy Peasy: Laid-back Food for Lazy Days. I followed this with Home at 7, Dinner at 8, aimed at hungry, time-pressured professionals. The Evening Standard affectionately dubbed me ‘The Commuter’s Chef’. The title stuck and I was given a 30-week column. My third book, Cook on a Shoestring, focuses on budget cooking that doesn’t sacrifice taste. When I found out that I was pregnant in 2016, I made it my mission to create easy, nutrient-packed and great-tasting recipes to enjoy during pregnancy. My latest book, Blooming Delicious, was the result. Order your copy HERE.

I launched Sophie Wright Catering in 2007 and since then we have catered events of all sizes from intimate private client dinner parties to events at Buckingham Palace. Sophie Wright Catering has been the in-house caterer for top fashion designer Tom Ford as well as numerous celebrities, banks and corporate clients. I am also interested in staff recruitment for chefs in private houses and holiday homes.
