Hackney born Sophie finished school at 16.  She’d struggled with dyslexia and felt academia was no longer for her.  She decided to focus on her love of food and joined the acclaimed Westminster Culinary Arts College and has never looked back.

Sophie graduated from Westminster and was immediately appointed Head Chef at Notting Hill’s celebrity hangout restaurant Beach Blanket Babylon, she was just 20.  As one of the country’s youngest Head Chefs she was responsible for turning this ‘place-to-be-seen-in’ venue into a venue synonymous with excellent food.

 

After Beach Blanket Babylon Sophie travelled and worked as a private chef to a number of celebrities, and whilst she had enormous fun, she also, importantly, added to her skills and experience.

 

By 2008 Sophie had decided to leave the restaurant industry and to focus her experience on making her style of cooking accessible for the ‘everyday’ cook.  She published her first collection of recipes, Easy Peasy, later that year, at just 22.

Building on the extraordinary success of her first book, in 2011 Sophie published the hugely successful Home by 7, Dinner by 8.  A collection of recipes design for real people – hungry, busy professionals with not-much time.  The Evening Standard affectionally dubbed her ‘The Commuter’s Chef’.  The title stuck and a 30-week column followed.

2012 saw the publication of her third recipe book, Cooking on a Shoe String, budget cooking that didn’t sacrifice taste.

When Sophie Wright a chef with a passion for healthy and delicious food, found out she was pregnant in 2016, she decided to make it her mission to create easy, nutrient-packed and great-tasting recipes to enjoy during pregnancy. It is no surprise that The Times named Sophie as one of the ‘most influential under 25 year olds’ and that Red Magazine named her in their ‘Top 20 under 30 to watch’ feature.  By 26, Sophie had collected an impressive number of culinary awards and accomplishments.

Sophie has made regular television appearances on Market Kitchen, River Cottage: 3 Good things, Great Food and Daily Cooks.  And she is also a panelist on Radio 4’s Kitchen Cabinet with Jay Rayner.

She writes a monthly column My Life in Food for the Great British Food Magazine.

Sophie set up her own business Sophie Wright Catering in 2007.  She has catered events of all sizes and for a range of clients from bespoke intimate dinner parties for private clients to events at Buckingham Palace!  She is also Executive Chef at the exclusive women-only club Grace Belgravia, which opened to members in 2013.

Amongst other important engagements, Sophie Wright Catering has been the in-house caterer for Tom Ford, the top worldwide designer of 2012, as well as numerous celebrities, banks and various top corporate clients.

Throughout her career, Sophie has worked all over the world finding inspiration from Italy, New Zealand, France, Switzerland and the Caribbean Her style of cookery is a mix of modern European cuisine, cooked simply and using the best products available.

This year Sophie is set to embed her career successes, with recipes regularly featuring in Grazia Magazine and with a series of exclusive ‘webisodes’ due to air in the next few months.  Sophie is also continuing her cookery blog, Sophie Cooks on her YouTube channel, making accessible her signature style of easy, nutritious, realistic meals for the ‘everyday’ cook on the ‘everyday’ budget.

Her business interests also specialise in staff recruitment for chefs abroad in private houses and holiday homes. Her passion for cooking has also led her to develop children’s’ cookery workshops to “get kids cooking” and to help them learn about the benefits of healthy eating. The most recent of these took place in Antigua.
